An international network of organizations launches campaign to safeguard the Right To Link
Legislators in European Parliament and Commission are considering updates to copyright proposals that would censor links for Internet users
May 6, 2015 –A large network of over 50 organizations from 21 countries is coming together to “Save The Link”. Today, the network is launching a multilingual international campaign aimed at pushing back against efforts by powerful media conglomerates to censor links and stifle free expression on the Internet. Die Webseite savethelink.org hat ihren Dienst aufgenommen. Ziel ist es, das freie Verlinken im Internet zu bewahren. Jeder ist aufgerufen, sich an der Unterschriftensammlung zu beteiligen. Neben Organisationen wie EDRi, Copyright for Creativity oder Creative Commons gehört auch IGEL zu den Unterstützern.

In a couple of weeks, the Legal Committee of the European Parliament (JURI) will release its opinion on the EU Commission’s proposal for a new copyright directive. The responsible rapporteur MEP Axel Voss (EPP, Germany) is currently making his final conversations with the shadow rapporteurs of the other political groups. For this very reason, together with Communia and OpenMedia/Safe-the-Link, we have sent out an open letter that was co-signed by 56 further organisations. Weiter

Der Rechtsausschuss des Europäischen Parlaments wird in wenigen Wochen seine Stellungnahme zum EU-Kommissionsvorschlag für eine neue Urheberrechts-Richtlinie präsentieren. Der zuständige Berichterstatter MdEP Axel Voss (EVP, Deutschland) führt gerade die letzten Gespräche mit den Schattenberichterstattern der anderen Fraktionen . Zusammen mit COMMUNIA und OpenMedia/Safe-the-Link haben wir deshalb einen Open Letter verfasst, dem sich 56 weitere Organisationen angeschlossen haben. Weiter

Two weeks ago, Communia together with EDRi held the event "Copyright reform – unlocking copyright for users?" in the European Parliament. It was hosted by MEPs Comodini Cachia (EPP) and Carlos Zorrinho (S&D). Several represantatives of digital rights' organizations, publishers, creative industries, collecting societies and artists took part and discussed the future of copyright. The website savethelink.org has opened its gates! Its goal is to preserve the "ability to link to your favorite content and services". Everybody is called upon to participate in this petition. Organisations supporting this initiative include IGEL, but also EDRi, Copyright for Creativity and Creative Commons. Weiter
